About the Program

In a moderated discussion, Jo Mathisen, former senior producer of The Today Show, will share her story on her professional career – her career path that ultimately landed her three Emmys, a Gracie award and a top spot as a producer of a national daily morning TV show. She will also share tips for PR professionals in working with producers and news journalists at national broadcast media outlets.

In advance of this program, PRSA Richmond will solicit questions from chapter members on what they want to know.

Learning Objectives:
1.    It’s all about the pitch.
2.    Take time to establish relationships with the media. Get to know them!
3.    Know your audience.
4.    Know the show.

About the Speaker

Joanne LaMarca Mathisen is a former producer of TODAY, America's leading morning news program. She began her career as an NBC Page and worked her way up to Senior Producer. She remained at TODAY for the better part of 30 years where she covered everything from the Olympics to the Oscars. Jo also covered entertainment for a magazine show at CBS, was a field producer for a morning show owned by the Wall Street Journal and then went to work at CNBC where she met her husband.

The last 8 years of her NBC career, Jo laughed along with Kathie Lee and Hoda on the 4th hour of TODAY also known as The Happy Hour.

Jo officially “retired” last summer from “the most incredible job” as Kathie Lee and Hoda’s Senior Producer for the “most important job”: raising her son, Mack and spending more time with her family. They currently reside in Montclair, New Jersey. And because she just can’t stay away, Jo along with two of her former co-workers, can he heard on SiriusXM 108 hosting The Happy Hour radio show. She also created blog called Old Moms Rock, because after all, she’s an old mom.

She is a graduate of State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta.

Chicken Parmesan on Spaghetti and chef’s choice of vegetable with warm rolls and apple pie for dessert. A choice of salad, with or without meat, is also available. Make your selection when registering, and be sure to pick up your salad ticket upon checking in for the luncheon if you choose that option.
